Rebranding into Coderbased
Last year, I started a newsletter called "The Scalable." It was my platform for sharing knowledge on general software engineering topics. However, I got very busy and had to stop writing.
Now, I want to restart the newsletter with a more focused topic. With the rise in popularity of Substack newsletters, I’ve come across many interesting software engineering newsletters and realized I need to narrow my focus.
I reflected on what I enjoy most in software engineering and found that I am most passionate about building products and designing systems. Early in my career, I established myself as an expert in building scalable systems, which is why I decided to concentrate on system design.
However, there are already many system design newsletters on Substack. To differentiate my newsletter, I’ve noticed that most system design newsletters either:
Explain fundamentals and software engineering concepts in a simple way.
Share system designs from big companies like YouTube or Netflix.
My idea is to focus on system design for specific features or products that we can actively brainstorm and solve, rather than just covering success stories from large companies. I want this newsletter to be like a game or challenge, and to be more community-focused, where readers are encouraged to contribute and share ideas.
But why change the name?
"The Scalable" isn’t a .com domain, and I’ve had the "coderbased.com" domain unused for years. The new name better aligns with the concept I want and serves as a better brand. It’s like a home for coders.
